1984 Olympic torch to be reignited at Legends Sports Bar ahead of Paris Games
Plus, five other places to watch the Olympic Games in Long Beach over the next two weeks.
The 1984 Olympic torch that was run down Second Street forty years ago will be reignited Friday to celebrate the start of the Paris Olympic Games.
Legends Sports Bar will host a celebration starting at 9 a.m. that will include the lighting of the torch as well as photo opportunities with it. The bar will hang Olympic rings and former Olympians will make guest appearances.
The Olympic Games Opening Ceremony livestream is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Legends will have a special menu of French toast, French fries and French vanilla ice cream to honor the occasion.
Legends is at 5236 E. Second Street.
Here are some other places around Long Beach where you can catch the action:
Watch Me! Sports Bar
Watch Me! Sports Bar, a sports bar focused on highlighting women's sports, will celebrate the bar's grand opening on Friday at 4 p.m. After the grand opening, the bar will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. so you can catch all the Olympic action.
Watch Me! Sports Bar is at 6527 E. Pacific Coast Highway.
Altar Society Brewing and Co.
For a Downtown watch party on Friday head to Altar Society on Pine where before noon the brewery and coffee shop will debut its new breakfast burrito (it's the bomb, owner Jon Sweeny assured us). Plus they'll have specials on Bloody Mary's, mimosas, and all their brews, of course.
Altar Society is at 230 Pine Ave.
Panama Joe's
If you're late to the party at Legends and the line is out the door, then there are other options on Second Street including Panama Joe's, which says they're the "go-to spot for the 2024 Olympics" on their Instagram. They're sure to have plenty of drinks to go around when they open at 11 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday for the opening weekend of games.
Panama Joe's is at 5100 Second St.
O'Connor's Irish Pub
O'Connor's, one of the best spots in Lakewood to watch live sports, opens at 10 a.m. every day, just in time for the ceremonies that begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning. They have classic pub fare and happy hour until 7 p.m. with garlic cheese fries for just $6 and bottles of domestic beer for $3.50.
O'Connor's is at 4130 Paramount Blvd., Lakewood
Ambitious Ales
The brewery in Bixby Knolls opens at noon so you won't be able to catch the very beginning, but then all weekend the games will be playing on their big screen. The watch parties started early at Ambitious Ales when the US women's soccer team beat Zambia 3-0 Thursday but you can still catch the second match of the group stage Sunday at noon when the USWNT will take on Germany.
Ambitious Ales is at 4019 Atlantic Ave.
