17-year-old arrested in fatal shooting of woman, Long Beach police say
Police say the teen fatally shot 21-year-old Justice Lopez at her home in the 900 block of Gaviota Avenue on Nov. 22.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a woman in Long Beach in November, according to police.
Long Beach Police say the 17-year-old, who was not named because of his age, fatally shot 21-year-old Justice Lopez at her home in the 900 block of Gaviota Avenue on Nov. 22.
The teenager ran from the scene that day, but officers arrested him four days later in the 6100 block of Orange Avenue for days later on two unrelated no bail warrants, according to the LBPD.
In the aftermath of his arrest, detectives identified the 17-year-old as Lopez's killer, police said.
It's still not clear why the teen killed Lopez, but police said they learned during the investigation that he was "an ex-boyfriend of the victim," according to a LBPD statement.
Detectives have since presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, which will consider whether to charge the teenager.
Police continue to ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7244.
