One person is dead and another has been hospitalized following a crash that ended with their car flying off the freeway into a Metro maintenance yard in North Long Beach, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle crashed into a freeway sign on the northbound 710 near Del Amo Boulevard around 3 a.m. and went through a guardrail before landing at the fence of the Blue Line maintenance yard, according to the CHP.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the crash where they found both people in the car were trapped inside, authorities said.
The LBFD said they were able to get both of the people out using the "jaws of life," but one of was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to a local hospital, they added, though their condition was not available at this time.
It's unclear what caused the driver to crash into the freeway signage.
