Police ask for help identifying 2 suspects after theft of beloved family parrot
Police believe two men stole the exotic bird from a house in the 3000 block of Cortner Avenue around on June 5.
For years, Harley, a 30-year-old Yellow-Naped Amazon Parrot, brought joy to the small Imperial Estates neighborhood of Long Beach. Earlier this month, however, two thieves stole the beloved bird.
Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the two men believed to have stolen Harley from her outdoor cage on the 3000 block of Cortner Avenue around 2:49 a.m. on June 5.
The Winter family, which owned the exotic bird for 16 years and said she was very popular with neighborhood children, said the thieves apparently tried to make off with the bird on two previous occasions but failed, ABC7 News reported the day after the theft.
Randi Winter told KTLA that the parrot lived with the family for the past 16 years, but after his wife began experiencing allergic reactions they took to housing the bird inside during winters but outside for the rest of the year in the cage.
"[A]ll the kids loved him," Winter told ABC7. "He would just make everybody happy. I can't believe somebody would do this."
After removing the bird from her cage, the suspects fled northbound on Cortner on foot before apparently entering a black sedan, police added.

The first suspect is described as wearing a blue hoodie, jeans and white shoes, while the second suspect was wearing dark clothing and dark shoes, according to the LBPD. No weight or weight information is available.
The Winter family is offering a $5,000 reward for the return of the bird, according to media reports.
Police are asking anyone with information about the theft to call the LBPD's Burglary Detail at 562-570-7351.
