Woman riding as passenger on motorcycle dies in crash near Bixby Park, police say
Police say speed may have been a factor in the crash, which happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
A woman died Tuesday night when she was thrown off a motorcycle in a crash near Bixby Park, police say.
The woman was a passenger on a 2018 Kawasaki motorcycle, whose driver was going eastbound on Ocean Boulevard near Kennebec Avenue sometime around 10:34 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department.
At some point, the motorcyclist drifted into the westbound lanes of traffic where it crashed into a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse, police said.
The impact of the crash, according to police, launched the driver and woman from the motorcycle onto the westbound lanes, police said.
Officers rushed to the area where they found the motorcyclist and the woman in the roadway, police said.
They rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took them to a local hospital, according to police.
That’s where the woman died from her injuries, police added. Her identity was not immediately released as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office works to notify her relatives.
Police did not say what kind of injuries the motorcyclist suffered or his condition.
Detectives are currently trying to determine more details about what led to the crash, though speed appears to have been a factor, police said.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact detectives at 562-570-7355.
