A woman died Tuesday evening when she was struck by a Long Beach city bus while crossing the street in Downtown, according to police.
Police say a Long Beach Transit bus driver was traveling northbound on Shoreline Drive, south of Seventh Street, when they struck the woman as she was crossing the road just before 7 p.m.
The driver reported the crash to the Long Beach Police Department, authorities said. Officers responding to the scene found Long Beach Fire personnel already rendering aid to the woman, according to the LBPD.
Despite efforts to save her life, she died at the scene, police said. Her identity was not released as the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office works to notify her relatives.
At this time, police believe speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving were not factors in the crash. They added that the woman was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck.
This marks the 36th traffic fatality in Long Beach this year, matching 2023’s total.
