Woman charged with 30 counts of misdemeanor theft in T.J. Maxx shoplifting spree, city prosecutor says
The woman stole roughly $6,000 worth of items from a T.J. Maxx in Long Beach during an eight-month shoplifting spree, according to the Long Beach City Prosecutor's Office.
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection to a series of thefts at a T.J. Maxx store in Long Beach, according to the city's prosecutor's office.
Over the course of eight months, Florence Leslie Miller entered a T.J. Maxx store in Long Beach several times and spent a few minutes inside before stealing less than $950 in handbags, purses, belts, or clothing, according to authorities. In some cases, she'd cut the anti-theft wires from products, they added.
However, employees at the store continuously tracked Miller's thefts by filing reports and accumulating videos of her committing the crimes at the store.
In total, Miller stole $6,000 worth of products before she was arrested on suspicion of multiple thefts, officials said.
On Thursday, the Long Beach City Prosecutor's Office announced it had filed 30 misdemeanor theft charges against Miller, which they say is the most shoplifting thefts filed in a single case out of Long Beach.
"Not only is this the largest shoplifting case filed in Long Beach, but the bold nature of the crimes is particularly alarming," said City Prosecutor Doug Haubert. "This case is an example of the challenges that exist when preventing or combatting retail theft."
Miller was already on misdemeanor probation at the time of some of the thefts, authorities said. She is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday, they added.
