What's Good, LBC? Pixar mini golf, Queen Mary anniversary, culinary pop-ups and more

Whether it's a family-friendly celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month or being part of the Queen Mary's 90th anniversary celebration, there's plenty to do this week around the city. And don't worry, we won't forget the spooky stuff either.

There are few things in Long Beach more iconic than the Queen Mary and this week the ship will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its naming. We've got the details on the celebrations and more things going on this week.

Here's your weekly round-up:

Pixar Mini Golf (Sept. 23)

From now until Jan. 15, you can play a Pixar-themed mini golf at 2ND & PCH. There are 18 holes with characters, references, and stories from iconic Pixar movies like "Finding Nemo," "Coco," "Toy Story" and more. Tickets are $25 per person and there will be a Pixar Putt After Dark after 7 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday evenings. For tee times and ticket purchase visit here.

Queen Mary 90th Anniversary (Sept. 26)

On Thursday, residents can RSVP for a free ticket, which includes admission to the ship and its exhibits, for a 5:30 p.m. presentation of the hand-sewn reproduction of the Royal Standard that was presented to the ship by Queen Mary 90 years ago. Following that, Alex Mendham & His Orchestra will perform jazz and classics from the 1920s. It will be a black-tie, formal performance and tickets are $45. Parking will be $10 with validation. Got Your Back at Mangette (Sept. 27, 28, 29)

Got Your Back will have a kitchen taken over at Mangette all weekend. Swing by between 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to grab special menu items like bibingka parfait with seasonal berries, corn condensed milk whip, cornflakes and more or a mushroom buster silo with fried egg, sweet tamari onions and coconut garlic rice. Ongoing events:

  • Long Beach Playhouse will run a horror thriller show by Martin McDonagh through Sept. 28. The show follows a writer being interrogated because of the gruesome content of their work after a serial killer is on the loose and children go missing. Tickets are $25 (plus fees).   • Dark Harbor is back! The festival will include mazes, live music, themed bars, on-board the Queen Mary experiences, food and more. It will run from Friday until Nov. 2. Tickets start at $39.99 and can be purchased here.
  • The Passion of Dracula, a new show playing on the Long Beach Playhouse's MainStage Theater will run through Oct. 19. Tickets ($35) can be purchased here.

More events happening:

Tuesday

  • Bel Canto Books and Alder & Sage have partnered to host a Banned Book Bingo event on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Alder & Sage. Tickets are $50 (plus fees) and include a wine & snack pairing from Alder & Sage, a bingo card, a bingo prize and a $10 donation to a local nonprofit. Details and tickets here.

Thursday

  • There will be live Dungeons and Dragons battles this Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Wrigley location of Long Beach Beer lab. No experience is needed and tickets ($22.15 including fees) include a free miniature figure. Information and tickets here.

Friday

  • Fourth Fridays is this week on Retro Row from 6 to 9 p.m. The free event is a time for the community to get together with local artist pop-ups, music, food and more.
  • Noche Latina, a free family-friendly event to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month will also be on Friday at Renaissance High School starting at 6 p.m. There will be dancing and dance lessons, art, a lowrider show, piΓ±atas, food vendors and more. You can find more information here.

Saturday

  • The Long Beach Symphony will kick off its Pop series with a tribute to The Beach Boys on Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $185 and can be purchased here. More information on upcoming concerts here.
  • Kitchen Lingo will host a knife-sharpening class on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 and include a stone sharpening set with 400/1000 grit & 3000/8000 grit stones, a flattening stone and a polishing strap. Tickets here.
  • Doodlefest returns to Trademark Brewing. RSVP for free or purchase a 1L Trademark Doodlefest Beer Stein and other goodies for $28 (plus fees). More information here.

Sunday

  • Latino Restaurant Week will start on Sunday and run through Oct. 5. There will be 18 participating restaurants with special menus and deals for the week. More details here.
