What's Good, LBC? Beach Streets, Veterans Day events, and more

It's been a big week and one full of change.

Here's a list of things to keep your mind busy and your soul connected to the community around you:

Beach Streets (Nov. 9)

Atlantic North to Artesia East in Uptown will be closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. so residents can enjoy walking, skateboarding, or walking the streets. The event is free and will have music, food vendors, activities and more along the route. Hubs will be located at Artesia and Cherry Avenue, Houghton Park and Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library.

Veterans Day Celebration (Nov. 9)

The city will host a Veterans Day celebration in Houghton Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a historic aircraft flyover at 2 p.m. There will be live music, a beer garden, food vendors, a kids zone and more. The event is free and family-friendly. More information and details can be found here.

Battleship IOWA Veterans Day Celebration (Nov. 9)

The Battleship IOWA will host a free Veterans Day celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be live performances, food vendors, and veterans can receive a free hot dog and non-alcoholic drink. For more information go here.

Ongoing events:

  • From now until Jan. 15, you can play a Pixar-themed mini golf at 2ND & PCH for $25 per person. For tee times and ticket purchase visit here.
  • Long Beach Landmark Theatre Company presents "Groundhog Day: The Musical" with performances Fridays through Sundays until Nov. 17. Tickets range from $35 to $65 per person and can be purchased here.
  •  Long Beach Playhouse’s Mainstage Theater will have a production of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" running through Nov. 30. Tickets range from $20 to $30 and can be purchased here.

Thursday:

  • Broken Spirits Distiller will host a Nightmare Before Christmas Distiller's Dinner with a five-course dinner and cocktail pairing, tarot reading, trivia and more. Tickets are $76.54 per person.

Saturday:

  • Compound will host its monthly community market on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to attend. Find the list of November vendors and RSVP here.
  • Bel Canto Books and Gold House will host a conversation with Ellie Yang Camp, Soo Jin Lee, Linda Yoon and Carolyn Huynh exploring Asian American identity, solidarity and self-love. The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and is free to attend, but books will also be available for purchase.

Sunday:

  • Sunday Jam is a free community even with food, music, specialty coffee drinks, handmade items, artwork and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2419 E. Broadway. For more information, go here.
