Celebrate Independence Day at one (or many) of the events going on around the city this week.

Last week we told you about some ongoing summer events like the Long Beach Municipal Band free summer concerts and The Addams Family series of shows at the Long Beach Playhouse. If you missed it, check it out here.

Here are some events you can check out this week:

Independence Day events

  • Fuego at Hotel Maya will offer a BBQ dinner menu from 5 to 10 p.m., along with a live rock band, Mike Vitale & Co. in Fuego from 6 to 9 p.m. on July 4. Menu items include Kielbasa Smoked Sausage, Fuego tacos, Elotes (grilled Mexican street corn), and more. For more information visit the website here.
  • Parker's Lighthouse will also have a special Independence Day menu on Tuesday. The dinner is priced at $68 per person and includes an appetizer, entrée, two sides and a dessert. Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. with full view from the restaurant. Reservations are recommended.
  • The Queen Mary will have a festivities at 3 p.m. packed with entertainment like a live DJ, WWII aircraft flyover, deck games and more. General admission for adults starts at $55; children's tickets are priced at $35. Book a ticket here.
  • Justin Rudd's Community Action Team will hosts its annual Great American Kids' Bike Parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., in lieu of an entry fee, participants and viewers are asked to bring some tuna, pasta noodles, breakfast cereal or peanut butter which will be donated to agencies serving homeless men and women in the community.   • Take a dinner cruise for a dinner buffet, full bar, and scenic views through City Experiences. Tickets are priced starting at $252 per person. More information here.

Saturday

  • Shoreline Aquatic Park will host this year's Long Beach Reggae Fest presented by the Caribbean American and Heritage Foundation. The festival will run from noon to 9 p.m. on July 6. General admission is priced at $34. Reggae artists including Rastafarians, Boom Shaka and more are set to perform. Sunday

  • The Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden, located at CSULB, will host the Tanabata Cultural Festival at 1 p.m. on July 7. Learn about the legend of the two stars Orihime and Hikoboshi. The festival will include giveaways, crafts and music. Tickets range from $5 to $10.
  • Learn how to create a charcuterie board with a variety of meats, cheeses, fruits, and nuts for all those upcoming summer gatherings. Karla from Cha Cha Cuterie Board will guide a class at District Wine on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are priced at $82 and include the class, an alcoholic beverage and four cheeses, two meats, fruit, nuts, dried fruit, and honey or a jam.
  • Buvons Natural Wine Bar + Shop will host a creative journaling event. Learn how to use various journaling prompts and techniques. Tickets are priced at $45 before fees.
