What's good in the LBC: Brick Fest Live, guided nature walk, a classic car show and more
A classic car show with free admission, food trucks and music is coming to Shoreline Drive this Sunday.
Back-to-school ads might already be popping up, but you can still savor summer with events all around Long Beach. From free children's art classes to the Uptown Jazz Festival, we've got the events you won't want to miss.
Here's what's going on this week:
Los Cerritos nature wetlands walk (August 3)
The Los Cerritos Wetlands Trust is offering a free guided nature walk through the southern area of Los Cerritos Wetlands. Binoculars are recommended to aid walkers in spotting local wildlife like raptors, other species of birds, tiger beetles and more. Closed-toe shoes are required and the trail does not have restrooms. The hike will begin at 8 a.m. sharp at the corner of First Street and Pacific Coast Highway in Seal Beach. Hikers who begin the trail must stay for the entire time. More information here.
Brick Fest Live (August 3 and 4)
Brick Fest Live returns to the Long Beach Convention Center this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Attendees will have the chance to work on building stations, view life-size Lego models, meet Lego Masters, create mosaic art and more. Tickets range from $27 to $41 (plus fees), children under the age of 2 receive free admission.
Sultans classic car show (August 4)
Sultans Annual Car Show will return to Long Beach this Sunday. Classic cars and trucks older made before 1975 will be on display at Marina Green Park. The Surfer Taco and Messi Burgers food trucks will be onsite to provide food and the event will be located across from Shoreline Village which includes Yard House, Shenanigan's and more. Wednesday
- Syncopated Brewing is hosting a speed dating event for people ages 40 to 59 this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Women's tickets are sold out, but men's tickets are still available.
Thursday
- Cafe Sevilla is hosting bachata and salsa dancing every Thursday night starting at 8 p.m. Classes will be offered as well as an opportunity for social dancing, no partners or experience needed. Classes are priced at $10 per class. More information can be found here.
Saturday
- The 13th Annual Uptown Jazz Festival presented by the city and Councilmember Joni Ricks-Oddie will take place Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Houghton Park. Five performers, headlined by BJ The Chicago Kid, are scheduled and there will be a food and beer garden as well as a kid's zone. More details here.
- Enjoy the music of Laurel Canyon including tunes from Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and others at the Recreation Park Bandshell on Saturday at 6 p.m. Bring a picnic spend a summer night with classic tunes. Kids age 12 and under can attend free while center bench seating is $25. Side bench seating is free. Buy tickets here.
Sunday
- The Hotel Maya will have a concert open to non-hotel guests this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. An '80s cover band will perform music in both English and Spanish. More information and tickets ($40) can be found here.
- The Museum of Latin American Art will offer a free children's art workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Kids can learn how to make a butterfly catcher while supplies last. Reserve a spot here. For adults, the museum will host an oil pastels on pastel paper art workshop led by Artist Maria Guadalupe in the Corner Garden. Supplies will be provided, tickets are $5 and can be purchased here.
- Good Luck Vinyl Club will kick-off a new DJ series "Discos Y Vinos" this Sunday at The Social List on Fourth Street. Pours of house wine are $5 and will be available from 4 p.m. to close. Follow Good Luck Vinyl Club to stay up to date with their events.
