Vault fire knocks out power for more than 25,000 Long Beach residents
As of 9:21 p.m., there was no estimated restoration time, according to SoCal Edison.
More than 25,000 Long Beach residents found themselves in the dark without power Sunday evening after an electrical vault fire.
Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Brian Fisk told the Watchdog that crews were dispatched to an electrical fire on the 3500 block of East Broadway near Redondo Avenue. Crews quickly knocked down the fire, Fisk said, and no injuries were reported.
But some 25,646 customers have been left without power, according to Southern California Edison’s website.
“Additional crews and resources have been mobilized to assist with troubleshooting and restoration efforts,” SCE spokesperson Diane Castro told the Watchdog in an email. “Our crews are focused on restoring power as quickly and safely as possible and then we will look into the cause.”
A video posted to social media showed what appeared to be two electrical transformers exploding near Redondo Avenue and Vista Street as a result of the fire.
