Suspected DUI driver killed in West Long Beach crash, police say
The man, 60, was apparently driving erratically before hitting a tree, according to authorities.

Police are investigating the death of a man who died in a single-vehicle car crash in West Long Beach Saturday night.
The man, identified as a 60-year-old Long Beach resident, was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry eastbound on Willow Street at about 10:50 p.m. when he drove onto the center median and collided with a tree, according to Long Beach police. Witnesses told investigating officers that prior to the collision, the man was "driving erratically and swerving between lanes," police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police added.
After citizens removed the man from the wreckage and rendered aid, Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
Police said they believe alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin, police said.
Police are asking anyone who saw the collision to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
This is 44th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year. There were 40 traffic fatalities in the city in 2024, according to police statistics.
