Stabbing suspect arrested after SWAT standoff
A man was injured and then arrested after police used a taser, gas, 'less-lethal' launcher and K9 on him Saturday night in the 1700 block of Pine Avenue, according to authorities.
Police say they arrested a man suspected of stabbing a woman he knew following a SWAT standoff Saturday night.
Long Beach police officers were sent to a motel on the 1700 block of Pine Avenue around 6:45 p.m. regarding a possible stabbing and mental health call, police said.
Upon arrival, officers found a woman with non-life-threatening injuries. The woman declined treatment from Long Beach Fire Department personnel, according to authorities.
The woman apparently knew the man who allegedly stabbed her. When officers tried to contact him, he barricaded himself in a motel room, police said, causing the LBPD Mental Evaluation and SWAT teams to be deployed.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, but after two hours the suspect remained uncooperative, police said.
The officers then used a taser, gas, "less-lethal" launcher and a K9, which bit the suspect, according to the LBPD.
The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was arrested, police said.
LBFD personnel took the suspect to a local hospital for treatment, according to authorities.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
