Six months of Watchdog journalism: We need your support to keep going
Six months ago, our worker-owned cooperative launched the Long Beach Watchdog with a bold vision: to restore fearless local journalism to our city.
Dear Long Beach,
Six months ago, our worker-owned cooperative launched the Long Beach Watchdog with a simple vision: to preserve and restore fearless local journalism to our community.
Today, I'm writing to share what we've accomplished—and to ask for your help, so we can continue this vital work.
In just half a year, our small but dedicated team has published over 600 original news stories, all without a single big corporate sponsor, hedge fund owner or "venture philanthropist"—because we answer only to you, our readers.
Here's the reality: while we've exceeded our editorial goals, we're falling short on subscriptions. To sustain our current operation and fairly compensate our worker-owners, we need 2,000 paid subscribers.
For as little as $7.99 a month you can help us continue to bring you the local news and investigative reporting you've come to rely on from the journalists you trust, like Caitlin Antonios, Jake Gotta, Fernando Haro, Jackie Rae, Brandon Richardson, Alicia Robinson, Jason Ruiz, Kat Schuster and Anthony Pignataro.
These dedicated reporters are working hard for you, every day. Support them by subscribing today.
If every person reading this email right now were to pitch in, we could pay each of them a livable wage, secure the future of the Watchdog for years to come, and most importantly, protect Long Beach from becoming a news desert.
Our democracy depends on having watchdogs who aren't afraid to bark. I'm asking you directly: Will you invest in independent, worker-owned local journalism?
The next six months will bring crucial stories that need to be told. Subscribe today and help us tell them.
In solidarity,
Dennis Dean
