Police say the shooting happened just after 1 p.m. in the 600 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, which is just north of the high school.

Long Beach Police are investigating a shooting near Poly High School that left one person injured Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The victim, according to police, was arguing with a man in the 600 block of East Pacific Coast Highway around 1:09 p.m.

At some point during the argument the man shot the victim in the lower body, authorities said. Police did not specify the age of the person who was shot and only identified him as a male victim.

The suspect fled the scene before authorities arrived and tended to the victim, police said.

He was taken by Long Beach Fire personnel to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, according to police, who said his injuries were not life-threatening.
