A man was shot Thursday afternoon near the area of Redondo Avenue and 11th Street, prompting a standoff between the suspected gunman and the Long Beach Police Department, according to authorities.

Police say the gunman shot the victim in the lower body during an altercation between them in the 3300 block of East 11th Street shortly before 1:40 p.m.

The man who was shot took himself to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

Police say they believe he is barricaded somewhere near the area of 11th Street and Redondo Avenue.

The LBPD SWAT team also responded to the scene, according to police, who said the investigation is ongoing.
