Rubio's Coastal Grill closes in Belmont Shore, citing 'rising cost of doing business in California'
The Long Beach restaurant was one of 48 locations that closed across California on May 31.
Rubio’s Coastal Grill abruptly closed its Belmont Shore location on Friday after the company decided to shutter 48 locations across California.
The seafood grill cited the “rising cost of doing business in California” for the mass closure, a spokesperson told the Watchdog in an email.
While the spokesperson said that 48 “underperforming” restaurants across the state closed on May 31, 86 eateries will remain open in California, Arizona and Nevada.
“While painful, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic long-term plan to position Rubio’s for success for years to come,” the spokesperson said.
Rubio’s Coastal Grill was located at 4702 Second St. in Belmont Shore.
