Police were called twice to search Junipero Beach Monday morning after someone reported seeing a human skull in the area—but the skull turned out to be fake.

Long Beach Police officers responded just before 8 a.m. to the beach area near Ocean Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue just before 8 a.m. to search for the skull for didn’t find anything.

More than three hours later, officers were again called to the area, police said. This time, they found what looked like a partial human skull, authorities said.

Once the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office personnel checked out the skull, they determined it was fake.

It’s unclear who put the skull there or where it came from.
