Police arrest man accused of sexually battering 2 girls in Long Beach

Police say the man is suspected of following two girls getting off the bus along Atlantic Avenue Thursday morning, June 18, and sexually battering them.

Police have arrested a man accused of sexually battering two girls along Atlantic Avenue Thursday morning, June 18.

The first girl, according to police, was on a bus when a man approached her.

They both got off the bus in the area Carson Street and Atlantic Avenue around 10:15 a.m. and exchanged a few words before the man sexually battered the girl, police said.

The second girl was also on a bus, according to police, when the same suspect approached her just before 11 a.m.

When the girl got off the bus in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue, the suspect followed and sexually battered her, police said.

Authorities on Friday afternoon asked for the publicβ€˜s help in finding the suspect, who was identified by police as George Marquez, a 21-year-old homeless man.

Marquez was arrested hours later on suspicion of attempted rape, penetration with a foreign object and for two warrants related to terrorizing causing fear and battery, police said. His bail was set at $242,000.
