A 19-year-old Compton resident has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in Long Beach's Washington neighborhood last month, according to authorities.

Long Beach police said Deriana Cole, 19, shot and killed 19-year-old Atwater resident Jordan Mosby on May 27.

Officers were called to the 200 block of East Pacific Coast Highway around 11 p.m. after reports of shots fired, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When the officers arrived they found Mosby with a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendered aid, but pronounced him dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Homicide detectives later identified the suspect as Cole, police said. At the time, Cole was already in custody at the Long Beach City Jail on an unrelated charge, according to the LBPD.

Police rebooked Cole for murder on June 23, and set her bail at $2 million, authorities said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, according to the LBPD.

Detectives will present the case later this week to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call Homicide Detectives Leticia Gamboa and Oscar Valenzuela at 562-570-7244.
