Police arrest woman following stabbing in North Long Beach
A man was shot in a separate incident in East Long Beach, according to authorities.
Police arrested a woman for allegedly stabbing a man in North Long Beach, according to authorities.
Long Beach police say the woman, identified as Melissa Mendoza, 42, stabbed a man during an argument in the 6000 block of Cherry Avenue around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital in stable condition, where he was treated for a wound to his upper body, police said. His wound was not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.
LBPD officers arrested Mendoza, who had remained at the scene, and took her to Long Beach City Jail, police said. There, she was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and an inflicting corporal injury to a spouse/cohabitant, according to the LBPD.
Her bail was set at $50,000, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the LBPD.
About five hours earlier, a man was shot in the 3600 block of Thornlake Avenue around 8:48 p.m., police said.
The man had been lying in bed when a bullet penetrated the ceiling and struck him, according to the LBPD. The man sustained a minor, non-critical injury to his lower body, authorities said.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, according to police.
