Police arrest man suspected of fatal North Long Beach shooting
Andrew Lozano, 31, fatally shot 40-year-old Martin Segura on July 16, according to the LBPD.
A 31-year-old man experiencing homelessness has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting another unhoused man in North Long Beach back in July, police said Thursday.
Long Beach police said Andrew Lozano shot Martin Segura, 40, on July 16.
Segura was near the Los Angeles River and the 91 Freeway around 11:18 a.m. when he was shot in the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined Segura was dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Homicide detectives later identified Lozano, who was also experiencing homelessness, as the suspect responsible for the shooting, police said.
On Wednesday, LBPD Special Investigations Division detectives found and arrested Lozano in Long Beach, according to police.
He was initially booked for an outstanding warrant unrelated to Segura's shooting, police said. Then on Thursday, police rebooked him for murder, police added.
His bail was set at $2 million, according to the LBPD.
Police said the motive and circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.
LBPD detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney's office for filing consideration.
