Police arrest man suspected of deadly Metro station stabbing
Cary Odell Singletary, 66, who is homeless, allegedly stabbed James Plummer, 72, on April 1, according to authorities.
A man experiencing homelessness has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death at a Downtown Metro station last week, police said Tuesday.
Long Beach police say Cary Odell Singletary, 66, fatally stabbed South Gate resident James Plummer, 72, in the 400 block of North Pacific Avenue on April 1.
The men apparently did not know each other, according to the LBPD.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel aided Plummer and then took him to a local hospital, where he was treated for a life-threatening stab wound, according to authorities.
Singletary, who fled the scene, was arrested by South Division officers about three blocks away from the Metro station the day after the stabbing, police said.
He was then booked for attempted murder, and his bail was set at $1 million, authorities said. The LBPD presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for filing consideration, police said.
After Plummer died of his injuries on April 6, the charge against Singletary was amended to murder, according to the LBPD.
The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation, police said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the stabbing to call Homicide Detectives Eric Thai and Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
