Police arrest homeless man following Downtown stabbing
Police say the suspect stabbed a man in the 100 block of West First Street around 1:05 a.m. Thursday.
Police arrested an unhoused man for allegedly stabbing a man in Downtown Long Beach, according to authorities.
Long Beach police say the suspect, identified as Matthew Chapman, 42, stabbed a man in the 100 block of West First Street around 1:05 a.m. Thursday.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the victim to a local hospital, where he was treated for a stab wound to his upper body, police said. His wound was not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.
Chapman, identified by the LBPD as a man experiencing homelessness, initially fled the scene but was then located and taken into custody, police said.
He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
