Long Beach police arrested one man and seized 30 guns in connection to a shooting back in December 2024, authorities said Tuesday.

William Higgins, 74, of Long Beach, was arrested last week and booked on charges of discharging a firearm at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a firearm, manufacturing or assembling an unregistered firearm, and manufacturing or causing to be manufactured an assault weapon, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department.

The shooting was part of a "dispute" between the drivers of two vehicles near Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue on Dec. 18, 2024, police said. The dispute escalated when one of the drivers fired multiple rounds at the other vehicle, police added.

During the shooting, bullets hit a nearby residential building but no injuries were reported, according to the LBPD.

Since then, LBPD gang detectives identified the shooting suspect as Higgins. On Friday, March 6, detectives and patrol officers took him into custody without incidence, police said.

When detectives served a search warrant at his residence they recovered 30 guns, 12 of which lack serial numbers, as well as "a large quantity" of ammunition, according to the LBPD.

Higgins's bail was set at $250,000, police said.

The LBPD will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, according to authorities.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding this to call Gang Detail Detective Hector Lizardo at 562-570-7370.
