Police arrest 2 suspected of fatally shooting homeless man
Josh Porras, 50, and Maria Gomez Gallegos, 41, shot and killed 32-year-old Steven Vejar on Jan. 12, authorities say.
Two Long Beach residents have been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting an unhoused man last month, police said Friday.
Long Beach police say Josh Porras, 50, and Maria Gomez Gallegos, 41, shot and killed 32-year-old Steven Vejar on Jan. 12.
Vejar was in the 2300 block of East Artesia Boulevard around 7:28 p.m. that night when Porras and Gallegos shot him, the LBPD said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel took Vejar to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.
On Thursday, LBPD Special Investigations Division detectives arrested Porras and Gallegos in the 5500 block of Linden Avenue, according to police.
Both suspects were booked for murder, and each had bail set at $2 million, police said.
The motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, police added.
LBPD detectives will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for filing consideration next week, police said.
Police are also asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Homicide Detectives Juan Carlos Reyes or Lisette Temblador at 562-570-7244.
