Police arrest 2 men suspected of killing man in truck
Maliek Dontell James-Morrow, 29, and Buon Henry Um, 29, allegedly shot 33-year-old David Alfaro to death on Jan. 18, according to the LBPD.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a man earlier this month, police said Thursday.
Long Beach police said Maliek Dontell James-Morrow, 29, and Buon Henry Um, 29 β both of Long Beach β allegedly shot 33-year-old Long Beach resident David Alfaro to death during a dispute on Jan. 18.
LBPD officers were on patrol near the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 1:49 a.m. Sunday when they heard multiple gunshots, according to the department. Scanning the area, officers saw a white pick-up truck that had hit a light pole and an unoccupied car, police said.
The driver of the pick-up, Alfaro, had been shot, according to police. LBPD detectives believe Alfaro had been inside the truck when he was shot, police said.
Officers gave Alfaro aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took him to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
Through their investigation detectives identified James-Morrow and Um as suspects, police said. Special Investigations Division detectives arrested James-Morrow in the 1600 block of Anaheim Street on Jan. 20, and Um in the 2000 block of Pacific Coast Highway the next day, police added.
Both men were booked for murder, police said. Bail was set for each man at $2 million, according to the LBPD.
Detectives have already presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorneyβs Office, police added.
