Police are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a car while walking on Ninth Street in West Long Beach early Sunday morning.
Long Beach police say the woman was walking in the roadway near Fashion Avenue around 4 a.m. Sunday when she was hit by a person driving a white Toyota Tacoma that was traveling westbound on Ninth.
The truck then fled the scene, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel gave the woman aid and then took her to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries later that day, according to authorities. Police said they did not learn of her death until Wednesday.
The woman's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office works to notify her next of kin, police said.
