The woman was hit by a car that had swerved to avoiding hitting another pedestrian, according to authorities.

Police are investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a car in North Long Beach early Tuesday morning.
The woman was in the area of Cherry Avenue and Curry street around 4 a.m. Tuesday when she was hit by a person driving a 2015 Honda Civic traveling southbound on Cherry Avenue, according to Long Beach police.
The driver had swerved to avoid hitting a man standing in the roadway, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel and LBPD officers aided the woman, but she died at the scene, according to authorities.
The woman was identified as Shalanda Young, 36, of Long Beach, police said.
The driver, identified as a 30-year-old Norwalk resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to the LBPD.
At this time, police say speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355.
This is 43rd traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year. There were 40 traffic fatalities in the city in 2024, according to police statistics.
