Pedestrian dies in East Long Beach crash, police say
This is the 48th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year, up from 40 last year, data shows.
Police say theyβre investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car on Wardlow Road near Norwalk Boulevard Saturday night.
The pedestrian, identified by Long Beach police only as an adult male, was in the Wardlow roadway outside of a crosswalk around 9:06 p.m. when he was struck by a white Honda CR-V traveling eastbound, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the pedestrian, then took him to a local hospital in critical condition, according to authorities. He later died of his injuries, police said Monday.
The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, police added.
The driver of the Honda, identified only as a 56-year-old female Garden Grove resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
At this time, speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence are not considered to be contributing factors in the collision, according to the LBPD.
