Pedestrian dies in early morning West Long Beach crash, police say
This is the 46th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year, up from 40 last year, data shows.

Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a pickup truck in West Long Beach Friday morning.
The man was crossing Pacific Coast Highway at Hayes Avenue around 6:23 a.m. when he was hit by a person driving a 2023 Ford F150 traveling eastbound, according to Long Beach police. The driver, identified only as a 40-year-old Wilmington resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
LBPD officers and Long Beach Fire Department personnel both gave the man aid, but he died of his injuries at the scene, according to authorities.
The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office, according to police.
At this time, police say speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
