The man was crossing the street on a scooter, outside a marked crosswalk, when he was hit early Monday morning, according to authorities.

Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car near Recreation Park early Monday morning.
The man was crossing Seventh Street southbound on a scooter outside a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a person driving a 2016 Hyundai Accent traveling eastbound on Seventh near Federation Drive, according to Long Beach police.
A bystander and officers gave aid to the man until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took him to a local hospital, according to authorities. The man died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.
The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office, according to police.
The driver of the Hyundai, identified as a 28-year-old resident of Laguna Beach, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
At this time, police say speed, distracted and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Ashley Van Holland at 562-570-7355.
The LBPD had set up a DUI/Driver's License checkpoint at the location of the crash two weeks ago.
This is 36th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year. There were 40 traffic fatalities in the city in 2024, according to police statistics.
