Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car in the intersection of Redondo Avenue and Anaheim Street on Feb. 28.

Long Beach police say Ronald Sera, 57, of Montebello was crossing Anaheim Street at Redondo Avenue in a crosswalk around 1 a.m. when he was hit by a person driving a Toyota Previa van westbound on Anaheim. The driver continued on after hitting Sera, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took Sera to a local hospital, according to authorities. Sera died of his injuries on Wednesday, police said.

The driver of the Toyota Previa is unknown but the investigation is ongoing, according to the LBPD.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call Collision Investigation Detail Detective David Dougherty at 562-570-7355.

This is the 22nd traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.

The LBPD reported 10 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
