Pedestrian dies after crash in Central Long Beach, police say
This is the 51st traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2025, according to police data.
Police say theyβre investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car on East Anaheim Street near Alamitos Avenue Wednesday night.
The pedestrian, identified by Long Beach police only as a woman, was in the Anaheim Street roadway outside of a crosswalk around 10:25 p.m. when she was struck by a 1997 Chevrolet Sierra traveling westbound, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined the pedestrian had died at the scene, according to authorities.
The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, police added.
The driver of the Sierra remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the LBPD.
At this time, police said that they don't believe speed, distracted driving or impaired driving are contributing factors in the collision.
Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355.
This is the 51st traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year, making it the deadliest year since at least 2013, according to reports. The city averaged 27 traffic-related deaths from 2013 to 2019, police data shows.
In 2020, traffic-related fatalities reached a high of 49 and then dipped to 45 deaths in both 2021 and 2022, data shows. That figure dropped to 36 deaths in 2023 but then jumped back up to 40 last year.
