A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle in Cal Heights, authorities said.

Long Beach police said the woman was crossing Atlantic Avenue near 36th Street around 9:05 p.m. Friday when she was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Atlantic.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel declared the woman dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The vehicle's driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is working to identify the pedestrian and notify her next of kin, according to the LBPD.

At this time, police said speed, impaired driving and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the collision.

Police are asking anyone who saw the collision to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective David Dougherty at 562-570-7355.

This is 32nd traffic fatality reported by the LBPD this year. There were 40 traffic fatalities in the city in 2024, according to police statistics.
