WATCHDOG TODAY: Solar-powered 'Trees in the Bay', delays at LGB and a battle brewing on the beach path

Good evening, Long Beach,

The Watchdog would like to thank everyone who joined the Long Beach Media Guild on the picket line today in Downtown Long Beach — local media needs all the support it can get.

It was (yet another) grim week for LA County journalism. LA TACO has furloughed its entire staff and must reach 5,000 new members by April 26 to resume operations (Subscribe to LA TACO here). And Knock LA is fighting to save its grassroots news organization from Ground Game LA, which has seized all of the newsroom’s work. Read more about it in LA Public Press.

Here in Long Beach, the nine laid-off workers and three striking journalists of the Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal are still fighting to return to work and they need all the help they can get. Donate to their relief fund here.

Meanwhile, The Guild is asking the community NOT to read the Post or Business Journal. But these reporters are working to bring you the news you need and the stories you can’t find anywhere else right here in the Watchdog.

Here are the headlines you may have missed today.

I’ll start this off by saying that I’m a veteran of Long Beach’s beach bike path. No, I don’t ride a bike. But back in my day, there was no pedestrian path and runners were forced to use the few feet between the painted lanes of the path and the sand if they wanted to get t…
