Man dies 2 days after being hit by car in East Village, police say
Police do not believe the driver of the car was speeding or distracted when he struck the man.
A man died in the hospital days after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in the East Village Arts District, authorities announced Wednesday.
Police say the crash happened Monday, April 22, around 6:23 p.m.
The man was walking north of a crosswalk near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Fourth Street when the driver of a 2002 Lexus SUV made a left turn onto northbound Atlantic Avenue and hit him, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.
Authorities responded to the scene and rendered aid before man was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, according to the LBPD.
The man died two days later from his injuries, police said, adding that detectives were notified of the death on May 1.
Police did not immediately release his identity.
Speed and distracted driving do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to police, who said the driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and cooperated with detectives.
