Long Beach police say they made no arrests but cited 11 drivers at a DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach Friday night.

The checkpoint was set up at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Second Street between 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to the LBPD.

Out of the 1,305 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 441 were screened, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Five drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended/revoked license and the other six received a traffic violation, police said.

This is the second time this year the department held a DUI checkpoint at this busy intersection. On Jan. 23, officers arrested one person on suspicion of driving under the influence and cited five others for driving without a license.

DUI checkpoint locations are usually determined based on the area having a history of crashes involving impaired drivers, police added. Friday night's checkpoint was designed to "promote public safety, increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deter impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers," according to an LBPD statement.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
