No arrests at DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach, police say
Five drivers were cited for driving with a suspended license or for driving without a license and another 11 for traffic violations, according to the LBPD.
Police say they cited 16 people during a DUI checkpoint in East Long Beach Thursday night.
The checkpoint, which Long Beach police say was designed to "promote public safety, increasing awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deterring impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers," was set up at the intersection of Seventh Street and Federation Drive from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to police.
Of the 1,813 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 517 were screened, according to the LBPD. Police said they cited five people at the checkpoint for driving without a license or with a suspended license and another 11 for traffic violations.
DUI checkpoint locations are typically placed in areas having a reported history of crashes involving impaired drivers, police said.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to the LBPD.
