Motorcyclist killed after crashing into pole, police say
The man may have been speeding when he lost control while merging onto Broadway from West Shoreline Drive, according to authorities.
Police are investigating the death of a motorcyclist who went out of control and hit a pole in West Village Wednesday night.
Long Beach police say a man was riding a black 2003 BMW K1200 GT southbound on West Shoreline Drive when he merged onto the Broadway offramp and lost control around 7:23 p.m. The motorcyclist then went over the concrete barrier and into a pole, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, according to authorities.
The man's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner works to identify him and notify the next of kin, police said.
Police added that they are investigating whether speed was a possible factor in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7335.
This is the 14th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.
The LBPD reported six traffic fatalities by this time last year.
