A man was injured Sunday morning when someone stabbed him while walking near Houghton Park, police said.

Few details about what led up to the stabbing were available as of Sunday afternoon, but police said the victim was walking in the 6200 block of Atlantic Avenue around 4 a.m. with two other men when one of them suddenly stabbed him.

The two uninjured men ran away from the area, police said, adding that officers found the victim with a stab wound to the upper body.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital for treatment, according to police, who said he is in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
