Police say they’re investigating a shooting in the Sunrise neighborhood that left a man dead early Sunday morning.
LBPD officers were on patrol near the 1900 block of Gaviota Avenue around 1:49 a.m. Sunday when they heard multiple gunshots, according to the department. Scanning the area, officers saw a white pick-up truck that had hit a light pole and an unoccupied car, police said.
The driver of the pick-up had been shot, according to police. LBPD detectives believe the man had been inside the truck when he was shot, police said.
Officers gave the man aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and took him to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.
The man's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin, police said.
Suspect information and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation, according to the LBPD.
Police are asking one who has information on the shooting to call Homicide Detectives Oscar Valenzuela and Jesus Espinoza at 562-570-7244.
