Another man was shot and wounded the same day. Police are unsure if the cases are related, authorities said.
Police are investigating a shooting in the St. Mary's neighborhood Saturday that left one man dead. Another man was shot and wounded but police are unsure if the cases are related.
Long Beach police said officers were sent to the 1000 block of Myrtle Avenue around 4:23 p.m. Saturday in response to reports of gunfire. Officers found evidence of a shooting but any suspect or suspects had already fled the scene, police said.
While at the scene, officers learned that two men had been taken to a local hospital for gunshot wounds, police added.
One of the victims died at the hospital, while the other sustained wounds that were not considered life-threatening, according to authorities.
The identity of the man who died is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner works to identify him and notify his next of kin, according to the LBPD.
Homicide detectives are currently "working to determine if both shooting victims are related to the shooting in the 1000 block of Myrtle Avenue," police said in a statement Monday.
At this time, suspect information as well as the motive and circumstances of the shooting are under investigation, according to police.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the shootings to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Jared Asato and Ethan Shear at 562-570-7244.
