Man shot to death in North Long Beach, police say

The man was in the 6600 block of Cherry Avenue when he was shot, according to authorities.

Police say they're investigating a shooting in North Long Beach that left a man dead Saturday night.

Long Beach police say they responded to the 6600 block of Cherry Avenue around 8:45 p.m. regarding reports of a shooting. There, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel took the man to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to authorities.

The victim's identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner works to notify his next of kin, police said.

The suspect or suspects fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers, according to the LBPD.

The motive and circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, police said.

Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge of the shooting to call Homicide Detectives Leticia Gamboa and Jared Asato at 562-570-7244.

There were five murders and non-negligent homicides in Long Beach in the first three and half months of this year, compared to seven during the same period last year, according to LBPD statistics.
