Police say they are investigating the "accidental" shooting of a man in Central Long Beach just after midnight on New Year's Eve.

The man was in the 1700 block of Sherman Place around 12:33 a.m. Thursday when he was struck following the "accidental discharge of a firearm," according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The man suffered injuries to his lower body, police said, adding that they were not considered life-threatening. Officers aided the man before Long Beach Fire Department personnel took over and then took him to a local hospital, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the LBPD.
