Man shot during robbery attempt near Cherry Avenue and Fifth Street, Long Beach police say
Police say the suspect “demanded the victim’s property” shortly before shooting him.
A man was shot Monday night during a robbery attempt just north of the Fourth Street Corridor, Long Beach police said.
Police say the man was in the 500 block of Cherry Avenue when another man approached him shortly before 10 p.m.
The man who approached then “demanded“ the other man give him his “property,” according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Police did not say whether the man complied or refused to give up his items, but the suspect at some point shot him in the upper body, according to authorities. The suspect then left the area, they added.
Officers responded soon after and rendered medical aid to the man, police said.
Long Beach Fire personnel then arrived and took him to a local hospital, according to authorities. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.
No other suspect information was immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
