Man shot during fight with group near Downtown; suspect arrested, Long Beach police say
Police say the shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out between two groups of people near Downtown Long Beach Thursday night.
Police say they‘ve arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of trying to kill a man during a fight that broke out between two groups of people Thursday night near Downtown Long Beach.
The man and his group, according to authorities, got into a fight with the 19-year-old‘s group in the 600 block of Elm Avenue at around 10:23 p.m.
During the fight, the 19-year-old pulled out a gun and shot at the other group, hitting the man in the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Nobody else was struck, they added.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the area and took the man who’d been shot to a local hospital for treatment, according to authorities, who said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers, meanwhile, took the 19-year-old, into custody on suspicion of attempted murder, police said. He was identified as Angel Jiovanni Pheang-Chavez of Long Beach
His bail was set at $1 million, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
