Man riding electric scooter dies after being hit by car in Belmont Heights, police say
Police say the man rode the scooter through a stop sign in the area of Ximeno Avenue near Shaw Street before the driver of the Ford C-Max that was driving south on Ximeno Avenue struck him.
Police say they’re investigating a crash in Belmont Shore Saturday morning that left a man riding an electric scooter dead.
The man was riding the scooter near Ximeno Avenue and Shaw Street just before 6:30 a.m. when he ran through a stop sign, police said. That’s when a woman driving a Ford C-Max southbound on Ximeno Avenue struck him, according to authorities.
Authorities responded to the scene and transported the man to a local hospital where he died, police said. His identity was not immediately revealed by police while the Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner’s office is working to notify his relatives.
The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, according to police, who said speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the crash.
