Man killed in West Long Beach crash, police say

The man was walking along Pacific Place near Wardlow Road Saturday night when he was hit, according to authorities.

Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a car while walking on Pacific Place in West Long Beach Saturday night.

Long Beach police say the man was walking on roadway outside a crosswalk near West Wardlow Road around 7:52 p.m. when he was hit by a man driving a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek traveling southbound.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel aided the victim, but he died at the scene, according to authorities.

The victim’s identity is being withheld while the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office works to notify her next of kin, police said.

The driver of the Subaru remained at the scene and cooperated with investigator, according to the LBPD.

Police said they do not believe that speed, distracted driving or driving under the influence were factors in the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash to call LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Efrain Pineda at (562) 570-7355.

This is the 20th traffic fatality reported by the LBPD in 2026. Last year, the department reported 56 traffic-related fatalities from 53 crashes, making it the deadliest year on the road since at least 1990, when the city reported 51 deaths, according to LBPD data from a public records request by the Watchdog.

The LBPD reported nine traffic fatalities by this time last year.
